Hi hello 👋 I’m Jesse.

I am a software engineer passionate about building the right thing, and building it right.

These are some of the things I care about:

  • Organisational and team culture (in particular, safety to explore and, on occasion, get things wrong)
  • Autonomy of the team and individual
  • CI/CD
  • Monitoring and observability
  • Evolutionary design over upfront design

📋 Experience

Senior Engineer - Chargefox

August 2025 - present

I am working on the team owning driver experience @ Chargefox. Chargefox is a platform for EV (electric vehicle) drivers to find and use public chargers.

Lead Engineer - Education Horizons

June 2024 - July 2025

My achievements around uplift of engineering processes and practices, and my technical guidance for the SEQTA team were recognised, seeing me promoted to Lead Engineer for the team.

I am a big believer in the value of “glue” work in a team (https://www.noidea.dog/glue). A significant chunk of my time is spent in meetings unblocking colleagues and giving technical advice. When I’m not doing that, I am writing documentation and learning resources in confluence, planning and investigating upcoming work, conducting technical interviews, and debugging thorny support issues.

Senior Engineer - Education Horizons

October 2023 - June 2024

I joined the SEQTA team, building on one of the country’s leading school management solutions. In my role as Senior Engineer, I drove planning and implementation of features like the preschool reform agreement report and our data cube export. I also used my depth of backend experience to diagnose and resolve a particularly thorny memory usage issue in one of our critical background processes.

In between carrying out my hands-on technical duties, I also drove conversations (and ultimately work) aimed at improving our team processes and engineering practices.
