How do you facilitate work flowing through teams when teams a renot built to have expertise in all possible facets of development. For example, how should a team that is building a product or service interact with database specialists. It doesn’t make sense to have a database specialist permanently in the team.

Near and far is a ****coaching model in which you have a coach who is on assignment within another team, but that coach is buddied up with someone who wasn’t with them on that particular assignment. The near coach is embedded in the assignment team, the far coach is not.

The buddies don’t need to be a junior/senior pairing.

The idea is that you have a sort of mothership team, the specialist’s originating team, whose job is to stay current/learn stuff in that field. The specialists then go off to teams in need, and teach and implement those learnings. The specialist coaches the team they’re embedded in on the things they need at the time, and next time they’ll need the specialist less.
