2 simple questions all teams need to be asking
Question 1: What’s your name?
So often when we describe our processes, for example the process of pushing out a release, we say something like:
Oh I hand my build over to someone in QA for testing, and then once they’re done they hand over to someone in Infra to get it deployed.
Do we even know these people’s names? Maybe it’s a different person each time, but still, do we know any of their names?
Question 2: What are you working on?
Seeing what happens on the other side of the wall helps generate empathy between the two parties. Maybe together we can find ways to improve both of our lives.
Organisations adding processes tends to boil those processes down to handoffs. More pairs of hands involved in making something happen.
